Professor Ali Jawad, originally from Baghdad, is a consultant rheumatologist at The Royal London Hospital, Barts Health and is a professor at the William Harvey Research Institute, Queen Mary University of London.
He has won several research grants investigating the role of cytokines on bone in rheumatoid arthritis.
He has published 3 books, chapters in several books and more than 270 articles in learned journals.
He is MRCP (UK) clinical examiner and external examiner for Imperial College London, LKC Singapore and Sultan Qaboos University College of Medicine and Health Sciences.
He was Vice President (Global), Royal College of Physicians (2018-20), Fitzpatrick lecturer (2020), member of the Think Tank Committee on Global Health for the G20 Summit 2020, director of medical education at Barts Health NHS Trust, medical director (Global) (2016-20) and associate director for the Middle East and North Africa (2008-16).
He was appointed OBE in 2022 New Year Honours List.
In March 2022, he was awarded the Royal College of Physicians medal for services and dedication for the College.
